Shanah Tovah! Happy New Year!
Over 80 Jews and Muslims packed in to the Workmen’s Circle last night to have a joint Rosh Hashana Eid potluck celebration. Attendees brought dishes representing their own tradition and shared stories about the personal significance of their holidays with them. The large turnout and success of the event is a powerful testament to the energy held by young Boston Jews and Muslim to build connections between the two communities. Stay tuned for more information about the event in the Brookline Tab and the Jewish Advocate.
Looking for ways to celebrate Yom Kippur and Sukkot? The options are plentiful. What better way to begin the holiday than by joining a group of Moishe/Kavodniks as they Canvass for Housing Justice (9/27). Once again our very own Margie Klein (a Hebrew College rabbinical student) will be leading Soulful Yom Kippur Services (joint Reform/Conservative) at Northeastern University’s Hillel. For more information and to RSVP, click here. Around 8pm on Monday 9/28 we’ll be hosting Breakfast at the Moishe/Kavod House (all food will be hechsher kosher). Sukkah Building will commence that very evening and will be continued on Wednesday 9/30 and Thursday 10/1. Wether you prefer to use a hammer or a paintbrush, we’ll have a special task just for you. Also, please join us for Shabbat Services and Potluck on Erev Sukkot (10/2).
Lastly, if you are looking for a place to have a pre-Yom Kippur meal, we’d like to help you out! If you are hosting a meal and have room for a few more, inviting folks to join in your celebration is a great way to do a mitzvah and get to know folks in our community at the same time. Please e-mail Sean at me@sphogan.com to host or find a host. In addition, if you’d like to join a meal or host a meal in the Moishe/Kavod Sukkah please e-mail Sean to arrange a time (see above), and please make sure to pitch in with our sukkah building beforehand! First come first serve.
Wishing each of you a happy and healthy new year (and an easy fast),
Alix, Annie, Margie, and Michelle
