Greetings -
I hope everyone had a joyous Purim. In the midst of the massive foreclosure crisis, Moishe Kavod folks are flexing our legislative muscles! Important state legislation, if passed, would protect all MA tenants from eviction, but time is running out to get these bills out of committee. We will be attending the Boston DSA, UFE, and Dollars & Sense Forum: What to Do About Housing Foreclosures? to hear from organizers from Massachusetts Alliance Against Predatory Lending (MAAPL), City Life/Vida Urbana, and State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz about how we can use our voices to bring change on foreclosures in Massachusetts. Please come to this meeting and bring friends–especially if they live in Allston-Brighton (Honan’s District), Brookline (Creem’s District), and maybe even in JP/Dorchester. Click here for more information. Please, RSVP to luminarae@gmail.com.
I’d like to kindly remind you all that we are coming upon a landmark moment for our community - our Second Annual Membership Meeting is THIS Sunday (March 7th) from 4:00 to 6:00pm. We will gather as a community to celebrate the progress we’ve made in building a strong, vibrant, and impactful organization. We will contribute each of our voices to the chorus of the whole – both literally and metaphorically – to identify where we’re at and where we want to go on some of the major questions we face as a nascent and growing organization. And we will make important decisions about what role we want to play as actors in the broader community of Greater Boston. At 6:00, we will break bread together and enjoy a celebratory dinner.
Be a part of the power! As the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization moves forward with its access to higher education and bank reform campaigns, targets are being identified, goals set, schedules with politicians made, and now its time to take it back to our communities. In march, Moishe/Kavod House will be hosting two “economy sessions” to find out how the issues of student debt and unfair lending are effecting our community. We hope to break the silence on how debt and fluctuating interest rates affect our lives, report back on what GBIO is doing and identify the ways we can take action as a community. The Cambridge session will be held at the home of Mimi Arbeit in Central Square on March 14th from 4-6. Please rsvp to anniedfox@gmail.com for the address. The JP session will be held at the home of Andy Shawhan on either March 15th or 16th at 7pm. Once again, please rsvp to anniedfox@gmail.com for the address.
Until Later,
Alix, Annie, Margie, and Michelle
