Weekly Email for April 5th

Greetings!

Moroccan Jews have historically marked the end of Passover by inviting their Muslim and Christian neighbors to celebrate in their homes with food and music. That’s Mimouna. Relatively unknown in the US, this North African holiday has experienced a revival in recent years. The American Islamic Congress and Prism update this cross-cultural tradition with an all-cultures-invited party, spiced with the flavors of the Middle East and North Africa. Just as Moroccan Jews and their neighbors stroll from home to home to share in the festivities, partygoers will experience room after room filled with food, drink, film, fashion, photography, spoken word, music, body art, and dance. Join Moishe Kavod as we go to this event! Tickets $10 in advance at www.newcenterboton.org or $15 at the door. Click here for more information.

Moishe/Kavod House is starting up a Chesed Committee. Acts of Chesed, meaning “loving kindness,” are actions taken to support others during times of need.  The Chesed Committee will organize ways for Moishe/Kavod House to be present and supportive during special times in our members lives – both times that are difficult and times that are celebratory.  If you are interested in volunteering for or helping to organize the Chesed committee, please e-mail Jill Lofchie at jill_lofchie@yahoo.com or Sara Rosenblum at sararosenblum@gmail.com. Currently, we are supporting one of our members as she overcomes a difficult illness. We are looking for volunteers who can make a vegetarian dinner for her at any point during the next few months.  In your e-mail, please also let us know if you are interested in participating in this action.  Thanks!

Until Later,
Alix, Annie, Margie, and Michelle
