As with most things Jewish, there is more than one opinion on what it means to be kosher. In order to welcome all different kinds of people and be environmentally friendly, here are some general guidelines/info:
- We will serve food on two tables. One table is for general vegetarian food, and the other is for food that has a hescher on the package, or is made in a hescher only kitchen with all hechshered ingredients. You are welcome to bring food for either table.
- Hechshered food is food that has an orthodox kosher certification symbol, like an O with a U in the middle, or a K with a circle, star, triangle or Hebrew letter Kaf (backwards C) around it.
- If you want to bring any kind of vegetarian food, that is great.
- If you have a hescher-only kitchen, it is helpful if you cook something so that there is more food for the people who care about heschers.
- If want to bring wine, try to buy a bottle that has a hechsher, or is labeled as Kosher wine.
