We encourage all Moishe Kavod House members who are active in Programmatic and Operations Teams to consider running for Board positions.  Elections for the 2012/2013 Board will occur on Sunday, June 3rd at our 2012 Community Retreat. Applications for the MKH Board are due May 18, 2012. Board Facilitation

  • Serves as the chair for Board meetings. Responsible for the agenda and operation of meetings (3 hours a month)
  • Responsible to set and maintain the frequency of meetings (cadence) and communications among Board members
  • Guides Board to set annual Board priorities
  • Manages the adherence to Board working principles as well as standards of documentation (e.g., for Board decisions)
  • Instrumental in developing processes and templates to increase the efficiency of the Board and organizational operations
  • Guides the Board to set short term and long term organizational goals
  • Creates strategy and leads execution of organizational metrics and measurement  to evaluate the organizations success against its goals
  • Reports to board and membership on the organizations success against its goals (e.g., Annual membership meeting, annual retreat)
  • Accountable for the planning of the annual membership meeting
  • Works with individual board members to ensure they are meeting their goals
  • Ensure the organizational charter, mission statement and vision statement reflect the direction of the organization
  • Works with Development and Communications chairs to promote Moishe/Kavod’s public image (e.g, attend media events).
  • Point of contact for external advisors
  • Leads the housemate selection team
  • Responsible for leading annual housemate performance review process

Time Commitment
  • Monthly Board Meetings (3-4 hours including prep)
  • Twice annual meetings of the membership: Membership Meeting (12-15 hours including prep) and Elections (8-10 hours including prep)
  • Housemate selection (about 25 hours including prep)
  • 3-5 additional hours a month for engagement with community members, teams, leaders
Board Position Membership Chair
Key Responsibilities
  • Leading and bottomlining the membership team, which is responsible for engaging participants, cultivating members, and developing leaders.  Specifically, this team will bottom-line:
  • Designing and implementing the process of welcoming and engaging  participants and members
  • Designing and implementing the organizations leadership development strategy and process
  • Tracking and reporting of membership numbers
  • Keeping member database up to date
  • Setting annual membership targets
  • Creating strategy for member recruitment and execution of membership drives
  • Responsible for establishing a Retreat Planning Committee and serving as liaison between the Board and the committee

Estimated Time Commitment
  • Board meetings once per month (2 hours plus 1 hour of prep)

  • 5-7 hours a week with additional time required during Board elections and membership drives
Communications Chair Communications Chair
Key Responsibilities
  • Leads and bottom-lines the communications committee, which is responsible for:
  • Creation of external (for media and other organizations) and internal communications strategies
  • Ultimately responsible for the maintenance and expansion of the organizations Web site, including content and structure, calendar and email system.
  • Responsible for maintaining a culture of transparency with members and participants as appropriate by ensuring communication of major decisions and meeting minutes
  • Responsible for coordination of all branding including logos, signage, posters, and brochures
  • Design and execution of social media strategy
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of strategies and technologies to promote improved communication and transparency among MKH structures including teams.
  • Responsible for overseeing the operation of Board collaboration tools
  • Reviews and approves media opportunities and press contacts

Board Position Development Chair
Key Responsibilities Fundraising

  • Coordinates overall fundraising goals and strategy
  • Coordinate donor outreach and communications (working closely with Communications Chair on external communications)
  • Leads applications for operational grants
  • Coordinates with and serves as a resource for programmatic fund raising strategy and execution
  • Works with the community to identify a fund raising process which reflects community values (i.e. balance between dependence on membership funds and external fundraising, between member accessibility and dependence on outside funders.)
  • Works closely with the  Finance Chair in setting fundraising targets and processing grants
  • Facilitates relationship with Moishe House, CJP and other ongoing funders

Board Position Finance Chair
Key Responsibilities
  • Works closely with the Housemate Finance Liaison to ensure that all organizational dollars are being spent most effectively and that spending is in line with organizational mission and goals
  • Monitors budget and reports to Board on status of funds regularly
  • Works closely with the Development Chair in setting fundraising targets, writing grant proposals, and identifying new sources of funding
  • Receives and approves ad hoc requests for funds over a certain dollar amount
  • Communicates on an as needed basis with Moishe House National staff regarding budgeting and financial policies
  • Serves as a resource to programming and board teams around creating budgets for events and other financial matters that arise
  • Creates balanced budget annually and presents for board and membership approval
  • Promotes a culture of transparency around where organizational dollars come from and how they are being spent
